David Gravel Heads to the Southwest to Race ASCS at El Paso and Las Cruces

WATERTOWN, Conn. | Oct. 31, 2013— The number of tracks that David Gravel has visited for the first time this year continues to grow. He’ll add another venue to the list this weekend as he competes at Southern New Mexico Speedway, while he’ll also return to a track that he made his debut at in the spring and had a very strong performance at, with that being El Paso Speedway Park in Texas. Both events are part of the National Tour for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) presented by MAVTV American Real.

JOSH McGUIRE HEALING AFTER CRASH

Sitka, KY | Oct. 31, 2013 - Late Model racer Josh McGuire had a nasty crash a 201 Speedway last weekend and fractured the C1 vertebrae in his neck. Doctors decided against surgery but Josh will need to endure a lot of pain and be in a neck brace for at least three months. As of yesterday, Josh was still in St. Mary's Hospital but doing much better.

WHEELERSBURG, OH | Oct. 30, 2013 - Rod Conley, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, picked up his fourth win of 2013 in thrilling fashion on Saturday night, October 26 at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky! The annual running of the 'Fall 50' drew a strong field of competitors to the undersized 1/2-mile speedplant. Rod ran sixth in his stacked heat race, which earned him the seventeenth starting spot in the 50-lap feature event. During the course of the unsanctioned race, "Hot Rod" methodically worked his way to the front and was sitting in the fourth spot with only a couple of laps remaining. After leader Kent Robinson broke heading to the white flag, Rod then took advantage of a tangle between Michael Chilton and Mike Jewell on the restart to grab the point.

While the team didn’t chase points at any track or region, it spent most of the year in the Northwest. Starks earned a career-best trio of victories at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., and he finished with 18 top fives and 26 top 10s in 45 races.

Bradenton, FL | Oct. 26, 2013 - Joey Aguilar's Sprint Car has a cockpit fire last Saturday during the Tampa Bay Area Racing Assc. Sprint Car Series heat race at Full Throttle Speedway. Joey was treated for burns on his hands and left leg and released from the hospital Saturday night. TBARA President Buff Fritz informed us that a high speed bypass on the fuel system came loose and sprayed Joey and the car with fuel.

MIDDLETOWN, NY | Oct. 28. 2013 – Brett “The Jet” Hearn flew to his tenth carrier Eastern States 200 victory Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Orange County Fair Speedway, shocking crowds at the historic fall classic with his ability to stay fast and conserve tires for 200 laps on “The Hard Clay.”

“That’s not a lot of tire there,” Hearn said in Victory Lane after Sunday’s race, pointing to the nearly bald tires on the Madsen Overhead Doors No. 20 and admitting that a couple more green laps could have taken him to the pits. “I came really close, I really did.”

Lucas Oil ASCS Teams Head West for the Battle at the Border

TULSA, OK | Oct. 27, 2013) Following four straight nights of competition in the 26th COMP Cams Short Track Nationals, the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real begin the nearly 17-hour journey from Little Rock, Ark. to the very edge of the southwestern United States.

Beginning Friday, November 1, the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real returns to the El Paso Speedway Park in El Paso, Texas. The site of two previous National Tour visits, the series’ first appeared at the three-eighths, slightly banked oval in 1994 with Rickey Hood topping the field. Absent from the track until 2012, Logan Forler parked in victory lane for the first time against the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour in his first outing of the season his family backed machine, after parting ways with Van Dyke Motorsports with five nights remaining on the 2012 lineup.

LITTLE ROCK, AR | Oct. 26, 2013 – Another birthday translated into another win for Sammy Swindell as he wired the field in Saturday night’s 26th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires 40-lap finale atop I-30 Speedway’s high-banked, ¼-mile clay oval.

After locking into his 11th career STN finale with a win in Thursday’s preliminary feature, the veteran shoe bested son Kevin Swindell in the opening pair of corners and was in firm command the rest of the way as he celebrated his 58th birthday by collecting the $15,000 winner’s share over this year’s STN field of 105 competitors from 21 different states.

Nicholson outdueled Johnny Herrera in the early rounds and then denied Kevin Swindell’s last lap bid to post the victory in his No. 16 entry, securing a spot among the front three rows of Saturday night’s $15,000-to-win, $2,500-to-start STN Championship Feature event.

Thursday & Friday Qualifying Nights:

Draw for position for Heat Races (7-9 cars per heat) – 10 laps each with passing/finishing points in effect. Finish position points awarded accordingly (150, 143, 136, 129, 122, 115, 108, 101, 94, 87, etc.). 5 points awarded per position gained, 1.5 points deducted per position lost.

On Friday night, Ray claimed his eleventh feature victory of 2013 in an unsanctioned race that drew nearly fifty race cars. The Brasstown, North Carolina ace picked up the $2,000 triumph in besting Tim Busha, Todd Morrow, Jake Knowles, and Riley Hickman!

CLAUSON SEEKING USAC WINS 19 & 20 AT PEORIA THIS WEEKEND

Peoria, AZ | Oct. 25, 2013 - Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. hosts the 13th Annual Hose Advantage “Hall of Fame Classic” this weekend as the AMSOIL USAC National and USAC/CRA SprintCar series compete in back-to-back Friday and Saturday night programs.

Bryan Clauson and Damion Gardner will try to protect their respective point leads as they look forward to the November 1-2 series finales at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.

Clauson’s National lead is a tenuous 13 points over Dave Darland, while Gardner has a somewhat comfortable 99-point lead over Nic Faas in the USCA/CRA standings.

Clauson has a half-dozen feature wins, three seconds and two thirds, while Darland also has a half-dozen wins, three seconds and three thirds. Gardner’s season has yielded five wins, five thirds and two seconds. Faas has three wins, three seconds and four thirds.

Clauson is in the midst of one of USAC’s most victorious seasons. His 18 wins in various series rank fifth all-time in USAC single-season history. J.J. Yeley has the record of 24 from 2003, while Sleepy Tripp had 20 in 1988. A.J.

Big Diamond has a longstanding tradition of sanctioning its weekly divisions, but the 2014 season will mark the first time DIRTcar Racing has sanctioned a weekly program at the 3/8-mile track in Minersville, which is just off Interstate 81 between Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Shane Stewart To Pilot Hill’s Racing No. 77 at World Finals

Little Rock, AR | Oct. 25, 2013 - Though he is busy preparing for his preliminary night at the Short Track Nationals in Little Rock, AR, Shane Stewart is excited to announce that he will pilot the Hill’s Racing No. 77 machine at the upcoming World Finals in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“I’m excited to get back out to Charlotte, and take on the World of Outlaws again,” Stewart said. “Miles Hill and his entire team have a first class operation, I'm excited, and thankful, for the opportunity to compete.”

Based out of Ontario, Canada, the Hill’s Racing team competes weekly at the Ohsweken Speedway often with multiple cars. Aside from Ohsweken the team competes at various tracks throughout Ontario, and the surrounding US States.

Aside from winged sprint cars, the Hill’s Racing team enjoys racing inside the family, as Miles’s daughter, Alex, moved into the seat of a 600 Micro Sprint this season.


Though dominantly a 360ci team, the Hill’s Racing team has in fact been at the World Finals the last five years, and are hopeful they can put together a strong run with Stewart behind the wheel, as he closes out what has been a very strong 2013 campaign.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. | Oct. 24, 2012 – I-30 Speedway’s week of STN festivities kicked off in rousing fashion with Dover, Missouri native Danny Lasoski besting a field of 95 competitors in Wednesday night’s Inaugural Short Track Nationals Open 25-lap feature event.

After taking the lead away from Johnny Herrera on the 15th circuit, Lasoski went on to not only pick up the $2,500 winner’s share but also assured himself a provisional starting position in Saturday night’s $15,000-to-win, $2,500-to-start STN Championship feature event should he not race his way in. Lasoski can also pick up a $2,500 bonus courtesy of Dixon Road U-Pull-It in the event of a win in the finale.

Sadly, October 9th would have been Donnie Ray Crawford's 26th birthday had he not been killed tragically in a domestic dispute on January 14, 2012. Donnie Ray is undeniably Harli's guardian angel and on October 4th this year, Harli, her team and family honored Crawford with an early birthday present by becoming not only the first ever female champion of the Oil Capital Racing Series but the first female sprint car driver to achieve such a feat in any sanctioning series within the entire plains region.

However, Donny Schatz, five-time and defending series champion driving the Tony Stewart Racing #15 STP/Armor All car, has cut the deficit to just 52 points after winning a staggering 22 races with only the two A-mains at the World Finals remaining.
