STATARAMA - World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars: Season Recap

Pittman wins closest championship battle in series history as battle goes to final lap

CONCORD, N.C. - Nov. 15, 2013 - Daryn Pittman is the ninth different driver in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series history to win the championship, leading wire-to-wire with an incredible level of consistency.
Only once in 73 events was Pittman unable to complete the A-main in his Kasey Kahne Racing Great Clips car. Never did he have an engine failure. In fact, he finished the season with 59 top-10 runs to join Steve Kinser (20), Donny Schatz (5), Sammy Swindell (3), Mark Kinser (2), Jason Meyers (2), Dave Blaney, Bobby Davis Jr., and Danny Lasoski as the only drivers to win a championship in the 36-year history of the series.

Schatz was almost unbeatable the second half of the season in the Tony Stewart Racing STP/Armor All machine. He amassed 61 top-10 finishes en route to winning a career-best 23 A-mains. Not since Steve Kinser won 25 races in 2003 had any driver been to victory lane as many times as Schatz was this year.
By the time the final checkered flag of the season waved at the World Finals, it was Pittman in front by 14 points in the closest finish in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series history.

BELL OPENS “WESTERN WORLD” WITH HONDA NATIONAL MIDGET WIN

Rich Forman Photo
Peoria, AZ | Nov. 15, 2013 - Chris Bell’s magical 2013 season continued on Thursday night as he took his seventh Honda National Midget win of the year to open Canyon Speedway Park’s “Western World Championships.” The Norman, Oklahoma driver tacked on even more to his strong point lead with a commanding win in the 30-lapper.

Bell’s teammate Tanner Thorson led from the green as Bell kept pace early on as a cluster of yellows kept the race from finding a rhythm. After leading the opening seven laps, Thorson bobbled in turn-two and nearly looped it. He continued on but that handed the lead to Bell as Thorson dropped to fourth.

Grays Harbor Raceway looking for new promoters...

Elma, Washington | Nov. 14, 2013 - Following the announcement that Grays Harbor County has ended their contract with Great Northwest Promotions for events at the Grays Harbor Raceway, the County announced that they are creating a distribution list for interested parties to lease the facility.

The Commissioners said last week that Great Northwest has a number of unpaid bills tracing back to 2010 with the county, and that prompted the vote to end their contract.

Archerfield QLD, Australia | Nov. 14, 2013 - Australian Midget Car champion and defending POWRi Series champion Nathan Smee has blasted out of the gates following a 9 month break, to secure the win at Round 2 of the 2013-14 PORWi Australian Midget Super Series staged at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway last night.

“First meeting of the season for me, the track was good, new car - and you always have teething problems. We had couple of problems in time trials with the brakes but other than that the car was pretty good and we didn’t have to do too much to it. It’s a Spike/Esslinger/Advanced Shocks/American Racing Tyres combination and the motor is beautiful. We’re just going to pick and choose our meetings this year,” said Smee.

WREN WINS PARR MOTORSPORT WINGLESS SPRINT SERIES OPENER AT AVALON

by DMT Sports Media
Lara, VIC Australia | Nov. 14, 2013 - The Parr Motorsports Victorian Wingless Sprint Series got under way last Saturday at Avalon Raceway with no less than four race records being broken as an exceptional field battled an extremely hooked up race venue to start the series season.

With six race heats, a B Main and the A Main feature run the teams really put it on for the race fans in a marvellous display of fast and close open wheel racing in which last season’s series winner James Wren (# 45 KJ & CM Wren Earthmoving – Maxim) came out on top despite a last gasp effort from Cobden’s Rhys Baxter to steal the win as the leaders threaded through traffic during the last couple of feature laps.
