Kane was initially placed second to South Australia’s Dave Gartner but was given first after a post-race investigation found Gartner illegally changed tyres on an opening lap red light stoppage. Second to the line after the amendment was Victorian Peter Nicola and third was West Australian Rob Bawdon.

The action started early in the thirty lap Championship final when Mick Nicola spun in front of the field on just the second lap. The toll was far greater however, as the likes of top qualifier, Des Korn and hot favourites for the race, Tony Barklimore and John Brown were all involved. All drivers with the exception of Nicola were out of the restart.

From that point on, the race ran caution free and Dave Gartner went about setting up a race winning distance between himself and Darren Kane. It was to no avail however as Gartner wore the wrath of the officials.

Peter Nicola drove a consistent race and ultimately claimed the second finishing position and Rob Bawdon, making his first appearance on the east coast drove a great race to claim third. Fourth to finish was three time national Super Sedan champion Mick Nicola followed by Victorian Wayne Belk with the final finisher being Keith Sims.

In the Speedcars, Matt Smith claimed a blistering win over New Zealander Hayden Williams and a impressive Matt Jackson.

The Litre Sprint A-Main was won by Glen Eyears from Jay Hall and AJ McTaggart.

The AMCA Nationals main event was claimed Laurance Chant from Terry Pankhurst and Robert Chant.

Glenn Mitchell won the Legend Cars feature from Brett Morris and Brett Mitchell.

FULL RESULTS

Next week at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway, the Sprintcars return along with the Wingless Sprints, Street Stocks and AMCA Nationals.
