Kwinana Beach, Western Australia AU | Oct. 22, 2011 - Mark Wells won the opening Watsons Express Transport Sprintcar feature race of the season at the Perth Motorplex last night from Jamie Maiolo and Kerry Madsen. He started from 4th and moved to second place early on before rounding up Maiolo 11 laps in and was never headed despite several restarts...

“That is a great way to start the season with a win,” Wells said, “I would like to thank Geoff Murphy for all his work." “That thing was on a rail,” he said in reference to the new car that he only drove for the first time a few hours earlier.”

The Geraldton Jet also paid tribute to father Reg, “Without him I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing.”

Maiolo, who won the track championship last year, said it was a good start to the season. “We had the 99 car working well tonight,” Maiolo said, “The track was very difficult to read tonight…it was fast racing.” Maiolo believed if they didn’t had the red-light stoppages they might have had something for Wells.  FULL STORIES, RESULTS & PHOTOS

Sprintcar Feature RESULTS:
1st Mark Wells, 2nd Jamie Maiolo, 3rd Kerry Madsen, 4th Carl Dowling, 5th Sheldon Brady, 6th Kye Scroop, 7th Lee Nash, 8th Ben Ellement, 9th Nathan Brady, 10th Matt Muir, 11th Trent Pigdon. DNF: Bradley Maiolo, David Priolo, Ben Dickson, Jason Kendrick, Steven Lines, Ken Sartori, Jason Boland, Troy Beckingham, Rhiannon Burleigh and Shaun Bradford.

SUPER SEDANS: Kodee Brown enjoyed a second and then a win to claim the opening round of the Southside Engine Centre Super Sedans from 2010/11 Motorplex Driver of the Year Marc Giancola and second-generation racer Dustin Higgs. “I am about as happy as a fat kid in a candy store at the moment,” the popular Broome driver said after the win...

LATE MODELS: Warren Oldfield had to borrow an engine from one of his brothers to race this weekend and the result paid dividends, winning two races and the opening round of the DiCandilo Steel City Late Models. “We had a fantastic car,” Oldfield said. Second overall was Craig Vosbergen who enjoyed a pair of seconds with national champion Brad Blake third in the race that counted. “She was hammer down tonight and there was not much of a chance to even breathe basically,” Vosbergen said.

FORMULA 500: Nineteen-year-old Thomas Davies wasn’t sure how many times he would be making the trek from Katanning to the Motorplex this season, but given his dominance in the Formula 500s, there’s a fair chance we will see a lot more of him.  He won both races on the night for the perfect round, claiming the night from Andrew Priolo and defending track champion Andrew Priolo.  “Every time I have been here before we haven’t had the pace…but I think we will come back.”, said Davies.
