Five Divisions Run Spectacular Waikaraka Speedway Kiwi Opener

Auckland, New Zealand | Oct. 22, 2011 - Opening Night at The Rock Waikaraka Family Speedway was spectacular to say the least with Rollovers for the All Black Derby Cars and a big Tumble for Ray Chatfield in the Modifieds...

In the Saloons the honours were shared between Stephen Corry Ht1, Phil Towgood Ht 2 and Robin Thomas took the First Feature win in the saloons, the battle in this class was indeed between Whitianga driver Phil Towgood 2NZ and #46a Wellsford hotshot Nigel Ross, Ross taking two second placings, and Towgood winning ht2 and third in the feature, Ross backing it into the wall in Ht2 in Pit Bend.

The Superstocks put on a great display of Speed driving as the big V8s roared around the Waikaraka Park Oval, Visiting drivers did the winning with Kihikihi driver Brad Ridland taking the first two races but in the third he was unable to master the track surface and kept on spinning out, leaving the Winning of the First Feature Event for Waikato driver Darren Short. Short was second to Ridland in the first two races.

The Modifieds were dominated by the current 3NZ jamie Fox sporting a Brand new body on his car this season this time a retro look with a 105E Anglia Bodywork but the CSL car was too quick and only Ray Chatfield was able to get anywhere near Foxy until getting too close due to a smoke screen from one of the other cars and Fox and Chatfield touched with Chatfield spinning Sideways and that sent him into a series of flips down the Front straight wrecking his car, Ray hopped out unaided and walked back to the Pits uninjured, Brian Jesen seems to have got rid of the horrendous vibration that plagued him last season and was up on the pace also.

Stockcars had a great night also with Bernie Fox taking their first race of the season also getting a fifth place and in the feature he was second to Gary Lonergan, Lonergan had a very successful night taking a second place in ht1 to Fox then in heat 2 he beat home the reigning Auckland Stockcar Champion Justin Hutchby and Lonergan went on to win the first Stockcar feature of the season, Scott tennant was also consistently in the top five taking home two third placings and a fourth in the feature.

The Ministocks were also on the Programme and they turned out with 29 cars which was fantastic to see and the mentoring Programme these competitors have been through in recent weeks showed that they have listened and learned from it because the driving by these youngsters was brilliant so keep it up Ministocks you are doing a terrific job.

The other event on the Programme for opening night was the Rugby Demolition Derby, two teams representing two Countries, The Black Team and the Blue team and it doesnt take much to work out the All Black Team against the Blue French team and in the first Half Race there was a bit of Contact but nothing too much however the second half was a different story as Both teams wanted the Glory and The French resorted to some dirty tactics rolling a All Black car in turn one but like the Rugby team the All Black Team fought back and at the end when the Checkered flag fell it went to the All Black Cars, lets hope that is a good Omen for Eden Parks Clash tonight.

All in all a great opening night with plenty of action, a great track surface and fantastic crowd for the start of a new Era at The Rock Waikaraka Family Speedway.

Next week sees the first Stockcar teams race of the season when The Gisborne Gladiators challenge the Auckland Alleycats for the Rees Shield.  VISIT WAIKARAKA PARK SPEEDWAY
