Redmond Claims First Aussie Midget Pro Series Win at Tim Crouch Memorial

Murray Bridge, South Australia | Dec. 7, 2013 - Last minute Speedcar Pro Series inclusion, Lee Redmond has blitzed a star studded field to win the round five as part of the Tim Crouch Memorial at Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway.

Redmond survived a heartbreaking thirty laps for many of the profiled drivers, including Travis Mills, who claimed the Revolution Racegear Quick Time honours at the start of the event and started on the outside of Bunbury’s Dayne Kingshott for the thirty lap main event.

Mills and Kingshott diced for the lead for the first ten laps but were harassed by Jamie McKinlay and Troy Jordan who both made short-lived bids for the lead but would both fail to finish.

With ten laps down, Mills had secured the front spot before an uncharacteristic spin between turns three and four left Kingshott with nowhere to go, tagging his right rear and retiring both cars from the race, as well as surprise top five runner in the S71 of Ben Hall.

Brock Hallett inherited the front spot for the restart with Redmond and a tail-chasing Ryan Jones in a one-off drive in Bert Fenton’s #41 starting out of third.

The Murray Bridge facility provided a multi lane raceway for the thirty lap feature, that served the huge crowd to a relatively clean remaining twenty laps, despite the championship changing roll over of series leader, Mark Brown who almost carbon-copied Travis Mills tumble earlier.

Brown’s failure to finish would see him lose his grip of the championship lead to Redmond who went on to win the event convincingly from Jones and Hallett.

Victoria’s Andy Pearce played the waiting game to nail his best Pro Series result thus far with fourth, and Scott Glazebrook’s Lazarus style comeback from the back of the field after his inniocent involvement in two stoppages forced him to the rear of field on two occasions.

Redmond’s Crouch Memorial win also doubled as his first win in a Speedcar, adding to his already full trophy cabinet from his impressive successes in speedway bikes as both a three time WA champion as rider and one time national champion as a team owner with Chris Holder.

“Maybe my solo racing taught me the throttle control I needed tonight. It was a challenging track but to make my first a blue ribbon event, is more of a reward for my amazing team and my dad who’s invested so much into this outfit.”

Redmond’s win elevates him to the top of the series leaderboard, with the Dayne Kingshott sitting in second after scoring two heat wins from the back of both races, and the battle scarred Mark Brown who’s electrical issues in qualifying set the tone for his less than memorable night.

The Speedcar Pro Series now heads to Nowra next Saturday for the second last round before a three week break over Christmas before the Grand Final at Warrnambool on January 5.
