BRASSTOWN, NC | Dec 4, 2013 - Ray Cook Racing closed out their version of the 2013 racing season on November 29-30 with the annual running of the 'Turkey 100' at the Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia. The Crate Late Model biggie drew a stout 61 car field to Swainsboro and all eyes were fixated on the hefty $20,000 top prize. Ray Cook, who came in as the defending race winner, laid down the quickest lap in his group during Friday's time trial session and later scored the win in his heat race.

When the action really heated up on Saturday evening, Ray started the 50-lap main event from the inside of the third row. Despite suffering left front suspension problems on his #53 MasterSbilt mount, Ray was able to drive up to the second position and put some heat on leader William Thomas. With the handling issues, the Brasstown, North Carolina star could not make the charge for the win that he hoped to make and instead settled for a strong runner-up performance in his season finale.

“With that A-Frame problem we had in the feature, I was fortunate to just finish the race, so I am pretty pleased with a second place run,” exclaimed Cook earlier today. “William (Thomas) seemed to be coming back to us a little bit late in the race, but I was just holding on with that broken suspension and was not able to make the charge I was hoping to make. It was still a good run for us to end the season and I am proud of everything we accomplished. I just have to thank my family, fans, sponsors, and everyone who pitched in to help work on the car throughout the season. Without everyone’s support, our success would not have been possible!”

With a move to the MasterSbilt House Car looming for 2014, Ray is heading into next year with a large amount of momentum from a great 2013 campaign. In a season that saw him juggle his personal racing endeavors with his promotional duties with the Tri-County Race Track, Spring Nationals, and Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series, Ray entered a total of forty-four (44) Dirt Late Model races across the Southeast. The popular driver known as the “Tarheel Tiger” racked up twelve (12) feature wins, twenty-seven (27) Top Fives, and thirty-six (36) Top Tens during 2013.
