Peoria, AZ | Nov. 20, 2013 - Competing at the Canyon Speedway Park over the weekend for the Western World Championships, Rico Abreu had a strong opening two nights, before an early tangle on Saturday ended his night early.

“We had a really fast car all weekend long, and I really wanted to win another race for Keith and everyone, but it just didn’t work out,” Abreu said.

Kicking the weekend off on Thursday night, Abreu timed his Keith Kunz Motorsports/Toyota TRD/Abreu Vineyards entry in fourth fastest, and went on to finish fourth in his heat.

Starting in the second row of the feature, Abreu got off to a shaky start, and ultimately came to a stop halfway through the race, and restarted from the tail end of the field.

After restarting from the back, Abreu had his elbows up as he worked the CSP to near perfection, and rallied his way back up to a fifth place finish when the dust settled.

Back in action on Friday night, the Rutherford, CA driver timed in seventh quick, before he scored a second place finish in his heat, putting him on the pole for the feature event.

With Darren Hagen getting the jump, Abreu stormed into the lead on the third lap, and he led the next six laps until the caution flew.

Losing the lead on the restart, Abreu battled hard with Brady Bacon and Christopher Bell, as the trio swapped positions, and raced hard for the rest of the race.

When the checkered flew Abreu had slipped back to the fourth spot, but was locked into the Saturday night Dash.

Finishing fifth in the Dash, Abreu lined up fifth for the Western World championship feature event.

Jumping into the fourth spot, Abreu found himself in a torrid battle with Brady Bacon, and the battle would hurt as the duo tangled on the 12th lap, and Abreu’s night was over, and he was credited with a 25th place finish.

“It was a really fun weekend, and I’m happy Keith Kunz and Christopher Bell wrapped up their championship, and hopefully we can get the company a couple more wins to close the season out.”

Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, ButlerBuilt, FK Rod Ends, Schoenfeld, Keith Kunz Motorsports, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, and Willwood for their support.
