Perth, WA Australia | Nov. 2, 2013 - Alex Bright has broken the stranglehold of Davey Ray in the Magic Man 34, claiming the feature race from Casey Shuman and Mark Brown in a fantastic contest that took less than 15 minutes to complete.

The two Americans were locked in an entertaining duel for much of the race before the four-time winner withdrew from the contest when leading and with only seven laps to go.Bright started on the outside of the front row and hit the lead early before trading countless slide jobs with Ray that kept the crowd on the edge of their feet.

"I couldn't be happier," Bright said.

He said it was a long journey but well worth it "to work with a great group of guys and an awesome car".

Bright didn't think he was going to win but said his confidence peaked after the pole dash.

"Awesome track...awesome event...and yeah...love it."

Shuman started from third and had hoped there would be more restarts.

“I had planned on maybe seeing a lot more yellows and was trying to conserve on tyres a little bit,” Shuman said.

“I didn’t quite play in our hands.

“I love coming down here, the atmosphere is really cool.”

Shuman has only contested the race twice and paid tribute to the Figliomeni family and event organisers.

“Awesome people, it’s cool to come here and race in (Michael Figliomeni’s) his honour and hopefully I can come back next year.”

Brown is a previous winner of the race and started from position 15 to race through the pack.

“It was tough work..it was just hammer down,” Brown said.

“I am just thankful to run in the memory of Michael…he was the best I have ever seen. We can’t bring him back but we have got the best family.”

Brown was happy with the result and wants to leave WA leading the Speedcar Pro Series after the rounds two and three are held in Collie and Bunbury next weekend.

Scott Glazebrook finished fourth and was the leading local driver, crossing the line ahead of Lee Redmond, Travis Mills, Matt Smith, Paul Robinson, Daryl Clayden, Alfonso Guadagnino, Andy Pearce, Jack Alfirevich, Blake Mills, Daniel Golding and Troy Jordan.

Adam Clarke, who won the opening round of the Motorplex Speedcar series a week and a half ago, was out of the race after 24 laps.

National champion Neville Lance was out after 23 laps and struggled all night.

It was tough for some of the visiting drivers including New Zealander Michael Pickens who damaged an engine at the start of the night and American Steve Buckwalker who only completed two laps in the feature race.
