The Champion began the evening by timing in 2nd behind Lynton Jeffery. Then all went south during the heat races when Meyers flipped with a second car forcing the team to rebuild the car and sending him to the B-Main....

After winning the B-main, Meyers was lined up 21st for the main event. The two-time champion had to slice his way through the field enduring several cautions in the 35-lap A-Main. Once he made his way to the front, the Californian had to endure three green-white-checkered flag restarts to take the victory at Sydney Speedway. This is Meyers’ 3rd victory at the track going into the Scott Darley $50,000 Challenge at Sydney Speedway this weekend.

Brazier Out To Stop Meyers’ Winning Run This Weekend
The Scott Darley $50,000 Sprintcar Challenge:
Six-time Australian Sprintcar Champion Garry Brazier returns to Tyrepower Sydney Speedway this Friday and Saturday night to take on unbeaten American Champion Jason Meyers in the Scott Darley $50,000 Sprintcar Challenge.
Meyers has been in sensational form during the international season at the venue and would like nothing more than to round out his Sydney engagements – and to complete an unblemished main event winning sequence – with victory in the Scott Darley race.
However, Brazier has other ideas and is ready to upset the American. Brazier has won Australian and state titles at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway and last season was one of the stars of the international carnival when he led the Yanks to the chequered flag in the prestigious Valvoline Australian Sprintcar Grand Prix. His proven winning record adds plenty of spice to the clash, while there is also the added incentive of taking a shot at the $50,000 pay-out if he can win from position 19.
The race this weekend honours local sprintcar driver Scott Darley who was killed in a sprintcar crash at the venue on October 18, 2008. Darley was making a big name for himself in sprintcar racing after he graduated from Litre Cars with national title honours.
Darley used race number 19 – after he secured the number from former car owner Ivan Palmer when he launched his sprintcar career in 2005 – hence the significance of the starting spot this Saturday night. The highest pointscorer from the heats has the option of starting out of position 19 with a victory earning the $50,000.
Last weekend American Sprintcar Champion Jason Meyers showed he could reach the checkered flag first after he started the A-Main from position 21.
So, the opportunity to become highest pointscorer and run from position 19 was something Meyers would not hesitate at accepting. “I think I would absolutely take the challenge,” Meyers responded when asked if he would start from position 19.
Meyers also has the added incentive to maintain the incredible winning run by the Americans in this race. This year mark the 13th running of the $50,000 event and an Aussie is yet to make the breakthrough for the win! Meyers will attempt to follow in the tyre tracks of fellow countrymen Donny Schatz, who has won this race a remarkable nine times, Steve Kinser and Joey Saldana . . . and Meyers wants to do it from the back!
