Needham Nails 1st Career Sprintcar Victory at Sydney Speedway - 8K Fans Attend "Skidz for Kidz" Opener!
Sydney, Australia | Oct. 15, 2011 - The opening night of the Tyrepower Sydney Speedway season was a resounding success with a massive crowd raising thousands of dollars for The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Danno Needham claimed his first victory in the Sprintcars at Sydney Speedway and over 8,000 people welcomed in the new season in the name of charity after $13,000 was donated from the night’s gate takings.
Daniel Needham recorded the first win of his career. Needham held off a determined challenge from reigning track champion, Ben Atkinson and veteran, Grant Tunks. At one point of the race, Atkinson took the lead however, found himself caught up in lapped traffic which allowed Needham to regain the front running. A late race caution gave Atkinson his final opportunity; however Needham kept his cool and proved too strong.
The evening was meant to be a very special occasion for the hospital and people voted with their feet to support such a great cause and also on the back of a concentrated media campaign via press, radio and television in the week leading up to the event. FULL STORY & PHOTOS
