Mills Masters VSDA Aussie Midget Opener at Avalon

Lara, Victoria, AU | Oct. 8, 2011 -  The V.S.D.A season kicked off last Saturday night at Avalon Raceway with round 1 of the Lucas Oil Products Southern Speedcar Tour.  Mills and Truscott shared the front for the main event with the laps being reduced due to the threatening rain. Mills would take the lead going into turn one with Pearce following him through into second as they exited turn two, the yellows would come out before a lap was completed with Truscott nosed into the wall after contact with Palmer...

Truscott would rejoin the field but retire a couple of laps later with front end damage. Mills led the field away at the restart and would continue to pull away from the field on his way to victory lane. Mills was followed home by Andy Pearce and 2011 Rookie of the Year Braeden Palmer.

HEAT ONE: Braeden “Skip” Palmer #18 (City Pro Signs Bullet/Fontana) & Richard Emmerson #7 (DLB Telecommunications Beast/Ford) lead the pack as the green flag dropped but it didn’t take long for Travis “Squizzy” Mills #10 (Strike Marketing Spike/Hawk) to forge his way to the front of the field. The #7 of Emmerson and rookie Stewart Grant-Campbell #0 (Emjay Ink Spike/Fontana) were early casualty’s with mechanical gremlins, meanwhile the yellows were brought out for Andy Pearce #5 (Lucas Oils Breka/Fontana) who spun to a halt after contact with Matt Papa #25 (Ghent Automotive mac/Gaerte). At the restart Luke Truscott #99 (Stealth/Esslinger) made a big inside pass on Mills to take the lead, while Pearce worked his way past rookie Grant Patton #45 (Spook Racing Stealth/Brayton) and Palmer. Truscott would go on to take the win from Papa and Pearce with Mills pulling to the infield with a blown power steering line and rookie Kade Morlang #11 (Western Pluming Supplies Bullet/supercharged Mitsubishi) also ending the heat on the grass.

HEAT TWO
Mills jumped to the lead at the drop of the green and left Truscott and Pearce to fight it out for second, Truscotts race ended prematurely after tagging the back straight wall, also Papa, Emmerson, Patton and Grant-Campbell all ended the race on the infield with mechanical woes. Mills went on to take an easy win from Pearce and Palmer.
