Mesquite, TX | Oct. 24, 2011 - There is no sugarcoating last weekend for Seth Bergman. “It was probably one of the worst weekends of the year for us,” he said. “You go into the weekend with high expectations. The previous week I had a shot to win. Coming into last weekend I was hoping to back it up.” The result was a crashed race car on Friday night and a 17th-place finish Saturday at the 38th annual Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas...

Additionally, Bergman lost points at the ASCS National Tour event and is now eighth in the standings.

“I drew bad again on Friday,” he said. “Usually I can drive my way out of it, but I was in the first heat and started in the last row. The track was just slimy and I couldn’t go anywhere. To top it off, I pulled a tearoff on the second lap and every single one came off.”

The Snohomish, Wash., native finished where he started – seventh – in the heat race, which relegated him to the back of a B Main.

“The track was just wide open then,” he said. “It was going to be hard to pass. I tried to go for it.”

On the second lap of the B Main, Bergman and another driver collided in turn two. The impact spun Bergman sideways and his car hooked, sending it flipping a couple of times up the track. He finished 12th in the consolation race and failed to advance to the feature for only the fourth time this season.

Bergman again started seventh in his heat race on Saturday, but the track was completely different and way more racy. Bergman made a late charge and placed fourth.

“We were ok for the heat race,” he said. “I felt like we were at least a third-place car, we just ran out of laps.”

That put Bergman on the pole of the first B Main, which he led all 12 laps to transfer to the main event. He started 17th.

“We were fast in the B Main,” he said. “Then the main event came around and it took rubber a few laps into it. That was it and it was pretty much follow the leader the rest of the race.”

Bergman finished 17th to record his 41st top 20 of the season.

He will compete Thursday through Saturday in the 24th annual Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The ASCS National Tour event pays $15,000 to win and $2,400 to start Saturday’s feature.
