Adelaide, South Australia | Dec. 3, 2013 - Bunbury based Dayne Kingshott has snubbed his nose at the unfamiliar territory of Adelaide’s Speedway City to take out round four of the inaugural Speedcar Pro Series.
Kingshott’s car speed became obvious from the start of the night, claiming third quickest behind Revolution Racegear Quick Time winner, Mark Brown and South Australian surprise package, Jamie Crouch.
Coming off a clean sweep in the domestic series at his home track of the Perth Motorplex last weekend, Kingshott’s Bunbury Subaru team headed east knowing that it was all new territory ahead. However the Speedway City 430 metre bullring played straight into the hands of the aggressive young gun, who sparred with eventual runner up, Mark Brown for 12 laps into the 30 lap feature, before making the move that would catapult him to the freedom of a ten car-length lead, while Brown, eventual third place getter Lee Redmond and GRD’s Travis Mills battled for the minor placings.
Kingshott’s strategy was foiled however by a series of blows and rolls that brought on the ambers four times, including a violent roll-over for Scott Glazebrook, and a heartbreaking right-rear blowout for Jamie Crouch who had reached as high as fourth earlier in the race.
But with 6 laps to go, reports came during a stoppage of varied tyre wear amongst the top four, with Kingshott’s gamble with the harder D20 providing the confidence to drive a little harder out of the turns than Brown who only had a D15 in his artillery and had slipped back to third behind Lee Redmond.
However, Brown took one last gamble as Redmond’s untidy exit out of turn four in the second last lap provided the gap he needed to cross the stripe with a completely bald right rear and claim second over Redmond and the hard charging Travis Mills, who was pleased to have a return to form and comfortably bag a top five finish ahead of a rewarding fifth placing for West Aussie Paul Robinson.
The fourth round shuffled the championship points to have Mark Brown the series leader on 1080 points, just 40 ahead of Kingshott and Lee Redmond in third on 1004. Reigning Australian champ Neville Lance is looming on a distant 871 points in a virtual fourth spot after USA tourist Casey Shuman has exited the series, while the heartbreak hero, Scott Glazebrook is still in the hunt only three points behind on 868.
The Pro Series continues next Saturday December 7 when the circus travels to the speedcar-friendly 360 metre Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway as part of the Tim Crouch Memorial, and a Monster Truck and Freestyle Motocross Family Spectacular
