Alexandra, VIC Australia | Oct. 31, 2013 - Alexandra Speedway Club got their season underway on Saturday the 26th of October with Matt Nelson taking off from where we left last season being at the front of the field & Bendigo’s Mason Swandale winning round one of the ‘Healesville Directional Drilling’ Cup for Junior Sedans.
In Sports Sedans the largest field off the night, Damien Miller, Matt Nelson, Allan Poole & Jack Chiminello all looked the strongest through heat racing in order to qualify for feature race starting positions.
Miller, Nelson, Chiminello, Miller again, Nelson again & Darren Forrest won the heat six heats however Miller’s race car carried some back end mechanical issues leading into the feature race that would soon affect his race.
With Miller & Nelson the two strongest drivers at the front of the field for the feature race start Miller got the best start and the lead. Poole, Chiminello, Forrest & Tim McPherson battled behind them whilst Miller & Nelson quickly caught the rear of the field to overtake.
Smoke from Millers car got thicker and as he passed more of the back markers stewards had to pull a defect flag and put him out of the race handing the lead to Nelson. Nelson went on strongly to defeat Chiminello, Poole, Forrest & McPherson.
In the SSA Junior Sedans Swandale got the perfect start in his first heat race taking the win whilst Caleb Lincoln slammed into the turn three wall after trying to hustle pass backmarkers in heat one. Dean Burton, Jackson Lunt & Cameron Pearson were the other heat winners.
In the first round of the two round HDD Cup Swandale took to the lead immediately from Pearson with a quick Burton moving forward. Again traffic played its part in determining the result when connection between Burton & his cousin Thomas Burton finished up with the hard charging Dean in the concrete in turn three as he tried to pass high around his cousin with Pearson going down low.
Swandale continued on to win from Pearson, Jackson Lunt, Donald Young & Tyler Barton.
In Open Sedans Matt Nelson was the strongest performer ahead of McPherson & Darren Nelson, Di Meakins was to strong for David Rose & Johnny Watson in Standard Saloons & in VSC Ladies Sedans Sonia Nelson was too good for Megan Cheeseman & Amanda Bickham and in VSC Junior Sedans Shane Kruger a new driver was too good for Donald Young.
Alexandra Speedway returns to action at 4pm on November the 23rd with GP Midgets, Dirt Modifieds, Street Stocks, Standard Saloons, VSC Ladies Sedans, VSC Junior Sedans, SSA Junior Sedans, VSC Open Sedans & VSC Sports Sedans.
