Henry Makes it Count & Taylor Takes Sprint Title in Ventura Finale

by Cliff Morgan
Ventura, CA | Nov. 19, 2013 - The 2013 season at Ventura Raceway ended Saturday night November 16, with a night of exciting racing in the seven classes present.

VRA Sprints crowned Greg Taylor their 2013 Champion after a night that saw 22 sprints take the green flag in their 30 lap feature. The race was highlighted by Johnathan Henry passing Danny Faria Jr. on lap six as the two drivers exited turn two. He then went on to lead the remaining 24 laps to take the win over Richard Vanderweerd, Troy Rutherford, Dominic Scelzi and Jace Vanderweerd. Taylor got all the points he needed to clinch another VRA Sprint title with his eighth place finish. His nearest competitor Tom Hendricks fell out on lap 13 when he lost a wheel in turn three in an incident that also gathered up Taylor. In the end, Taylor was 185 points ahead of Hendricks in the season's standings. Three heat races were run with wins going to Johnathan Henry in Extreme Mufflers heat one, Richard Vanderweerd in Saldana Racing Products heat two and Troy Rutherford in BR Motorsports heat three.

Peoria, AZ | Nov. 17, 2013 - Two-time National Midget champion Bryan Clauson pulled out the latest in his bag of tricks for a last-corner, last-lap win in the 46th “Western World Championships” at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday. The Noblesville, Indiana driver made it his 22nd overall USAC win on the year and fifth Honda National score.

Friday night winner Darren Hagen beat Clauson off the front row as three cautions before two laps had been completed slowed the action. The battle at the front escalated quickly as Chris Bell, who clinched the Honda National Dirt Midget Championship upon starting, got the top working early to take the lead as he and Hagen completed lap five.
