Henry Makes it Count & Taylor Takes Sprint Title in Ventura Finale

Ventura, CA | Nov. 19, 2013 - The 2013 season at Ventura Raceway ended Saturday night November 16, with a night of exciting racing in the seven classes present.
VRA Sprints crowned Greg Taylor their 2013 Champion after a night that saw 22 sprints take the green flag in their 30 lap feature. The race was highlighted by Johnathan Henry passing Danny Faria Jr. on lap six as the two drivers exited turn two. He then went on to lead the remaining 24 laps to take the win over Richard Vanderweerd, Troy Rutherford, Dominic Scelzi and Jace Vanderweerd. Taylor got all the points he needed to clinch another VRA Sprint title with his eighth place finish. His nearest competitor Tom Hendricks fell out on lap 13 when he lost a wheel in turn three in an incident that also gathered up Taylor. In the end, Taylor was 185 points ahead of Hendricks in the season's standings. Three heat races were run with wins going to Johnathan Henry in Extreme Mufflers heat one, Richard Vanderweerd in Saldana Racing Products heat two and Troy Rutherford in BR Motorsports heat three.
VRA Dwarf Cars saw a large field of 29 Pros and 8 Seniors. In Pro action Johnny Conley clinched the season championship with his third place finish in their 20 lap feature won by past champ Brian Saxton. Following Saxton to the finish were Mike Neal, Conley, Matt Larson and Hannah Mayhew. The Pros ran four heat races with wins going to Larson, Neal, Mayhew and Tim Conley who finished third in the season points to give the Conley family 1st and 3rd in the final point standings. In Senior action Mike Lewis took the win in their feature over Keith Vondersaar, point champion Mile Neal, Bob Kaufman and Lee Majors. Their one heat race went to Bob Kaufman.
VRA Mod Lites raced without 2013 Champion Ricky Lewis who damaged his cars in warm ups and was done for the night. The race went to Kevin Calvo followed by Mike Gilmore, Jeffrey Fry, Kim Lewis and Kris Kornder. Their heat race went to Calvo as well.
VRA Sport Compact action saw past champion Andrew Greiman take the 20 lap feature over Trent Morley, James Adler, 2013 aeries champ Zack Peterson and Bruce Fink. Their two heats went to Peterson and Greiman. Peterson clinched the 2013 Championship on a previous night giving him back to back championships.
VRA Quads ended their season with wins going to Kyle Eurto in the Open Class and Justin Smith in the Sportsman Class. Track Championships were claimed by Robert Peterson in the Sportsman Class and David Knight in the Open Class.
Matt Jones claimed the 2013 VRA Kart Championship Saturday night in a race that saw him finish second to Kenny Byers jr., in their 20 lap feature. Byers led Jones, Cody Cook and Jonah Dipaola to the finish. Byers also took the win in their heat race.
With the season now concluded, plans are under way for the 2014 season that will return in March.
