SUNNYVALE, TX | Nov. 4, 2013 – Sam Hafertepe Jr. is gearing up for the final event of his season with a mission targeting consistency.
Hafertepe Jr. is tackling the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series 7th annual World Finals this Thursday through Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.
“Our expectation when you go to that race is make both events,” he said. “The goal is to be consistent for both nights of qualifying and put yourself in a good position. That’s the main goal right away. And then we want to go in there with a good mindset and execute on our game plan.”
Hafertepe Jr. said the team will haul approximately 16 hours each way to the premier event, which is scheduled to be taped for a delayed television broadcast by CBS Sports Network.
“There’s always TV there and tons of people there that are really involved in every aspect of racing,” he said. “You want to be out there and show your car and perform in front of them. There’s three days of racing and probably 15,000 fans in the stands every day. We get to see three classes with the best cars in the country in every class. It’s just a really good event.”
Hafertepe Jr. has had a lot of success at both the event and the unique track. He finished ninth in May during a World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series race at the 4/10-mile oval and has recorded a top-10 finish in each of the past three years at the World Finals.
“It’s a hard place to get a hold of, but it’s one of those places that when you do it seems that you are really good because everybody else has a hard time getting a hold of it,” he said. “We’ve ran well there, but haven’t had two straight good races. It seems like we are solid one night and not the next. We’re aiming for consistency this year.”
This will be the final event of the season for Hafertepe Jr., who has earned four victories and 11 top fives this year.
“We haven’t had one of our better years so you want more and more races to prove that you can have some good finishes throughout the year,” he said. “We do want to go out and put down a good finish to end the year on a good note. If we make a good showing down there it makes the offseason go that much better.”
