Allard, Pickens & Taylor Claim Thrillers at Western Springs Kiwi Opener - Last Corner Slide Jobs and Flames Mark Wins!
Auckland, NZ | Nov. 5, 2011 - WOW! What an opening night at the Springs! First, Jared Taylor made a brilliant move on the last corner to grab the victory in the TQ Midgets. Then, Brad Mosen did not have nearly the same luck as he did in last year's opener (Mosen won last season's first Midget feature at Western Springs Speedway). Just after charging from an 18th starting spot to pass Michael Pickens for the lead last night, Mosen's car burst into flames on the front stretch! (he was OK) Pickens went on to win the race...
American and reigning New Zealand Sprint Car Champion Jonathan Allard (#1nz) used heroics of his own in the Sprint Car A-Main. First he nearly got collected by a spinner but somehow manage to avoid the wreck and keep the car going then he made a last lap slide job on Dean Brindle for the win. Fellow American Ricky Logan took third in the Lucas Oil #10 machine!
