Kinser Dominates for 9th Win

Kinser Leads Entire Race to Pick Up 9th Win of 2011

Schatz finishes second as Tony Stewart Racing sweeps top spots

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. — Sept. 17, 2011 — One night after flipping violently at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, Steve Kinser was back in victory lane for the 9th time as he dominated the Outlaws annual visit to Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. The driver of the #11 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet started from the outside pole and grabbed the lead going down the back stretch. For the remainder of the 35 lap event, the entire field could only watch as Kinser ran away from the pack.

“Tonight our car felt absolutely great,” said Kinser, a Bloomington, Ind. native. “We had a tricky restart last night and I goofed on it. The track was really good tonight. It laid a little rubber on the high side of turn four so I had to move down a bit. We had an opportunity to gain some points on Jason (Meyers) and we ended up losing a few. From here on it, we’re going for wins and trying to close out this thing strong. Everything else will have to fall where it does but if we can continue to win races than there’s nothing more we can do.”

Starting alongside Kinser was his Tony Stewart Racing teammate, Donny Schatz. The driver of the #15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet tried his best to catch his teammate but ended up battling the likes of Brad Sweet and Kerry Madsen for the second spot.

“Tonight was another good finish for our team,” said Schatz, a Fargo, N.D. resident. “Wished we could’ve won last night but that’s just how it goes. We had a great car tonight, we’ve been changing some things and getting better. We’re glad to be back in the Midwest and getting closer to the end of the season.”

Third position changed hands several times throughout the race with Madsen, Sweet and Craig Dollansky trading slide jobs through all four corners at the 3/8th’s mile oval. In the end, it was Madsen who snuck by Sweet to hold onto the last podium spot.

“Brad pulled off a slide job that must’ve looked thrilling in the stands,” Madsen said. “We’re really glad to be up here and finishing third. We’ve had some stretches of bad luck here so this helps. It’s a great result considering we’re still in the process of getting this Keneric Racing team up and going.”

The field was slowed by one caution early on as Sammy Swindell spun on the front stretch. Swindell restarted dead last and picked up 10 positions to earn the nights KSE Hard Charger Award. Dollansky settled for fourth with Sweet rounding out the top-5. Series points leader Jason Meyers set Quick Time on the night and finished 6th. Meyers still holds a 98 point advantage over Kinser heading into the season’s final stretches.

The Outlaws will take on Harford (Mich.) Speedway on Wednesday, September 21 before heading to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Friday, September 23 and Lernerville Speedway on Saturday, September 24.
